BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are prescription drugs called neurotoxins, that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. They are used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. Gwinnett Dermatology offers Botox Injections in Braselton, Snellville & Loganville, GA to treat wrinkles, frownlines, worrylines and crows feet, smile lines, lines around the mouth, downturned corners of the mouth, chin wrinkles, neck lines, “marionette’s” lines running down from the corners of the mouth, and excessively sweaty armpits, palms, and feet. Call our offices today to book an appointment.
Xeomin® is a form of botulinum toxin type A that can be injected into the muscles just beneath the skin to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. Particularly effective in treating deep frown lines between the eyebrows, Xeomin has received FDA approval.
Like other types of botulinum treatments, Xeomin prevents muscles from contracting. However, Xeomin is different from its predecessors in that it contains no additives, which may decrease a patient’s antibody reaction. If the immune system is not creating antibodies to fight it, the treatment will be much more successful.
Results of Xeomin treatment are typically evident in one week and last between three and six months.
What is Botox?
Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical procedure that smoothes expression lines around the eyes, between the eyebrows and on the forehead. The physicians at Gwinnett Dermatology have many years of experience performing Botox ® Cosmetic procedures which has enabled our practice to develop a consistent flow of patients who have regular treatments. This provides the ability for our physicians to administer Botox® Cosmetic treatments on a daily basis for the convenience of our patients and ensures that the protein administered to each patient is fresh and effective.
How does Botox work?
Botox® Cosmetic is a natural purified protein that is administered in very low doses which are confined to the injected region. A few drops of the protein are injected into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. This relaxes the muscle by blocking its nerve impulse. As a result, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and, in some cases, disappear.
What is recovery like?
The procedure takes only a few minutes and provides only minimal discomfort with minor, temporary side effects. Most patients go right back to work or continue their activities immediately after the procedure.
It is unlikely that you’ll develop any significant side effects, but you may notice slight bruising at the injection sites. This is only temporary and can be covered by makeup. The most common side effects are headache, slight swelling around injection sites (usually lasts 30 minutes to 1 hour) and temporary eyelid droop (can usually be reversed, if desired).
When will I see results?
You should begin to see significant improvement within 5 to 7 days. The benefits usually last between 2 to 4 months. In order to maintain and maximize your benefits it is recommended to retreat every three months. Although the results are often dramatic, it will not radically change your facial appearance. The muscles are simply relaxed, so you can still frown, smile, or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases.
